About Engi-Mat

History

The company was originally founded in Georgia in 1994 and previously operated as nGimat Co. in Georgia and nGimat LLC in Kentucky. Known as Engi-Mat Co. since January 1, 2019, the company is now headquartered in Lexington, Kentucky, where it has operated a research and manufacturing facility since 2010. In 2018, the company completed certification to the ISO9001:2015 standard for the design and production of nanopowders. For over twenty-five years, we have provided unique solutions to our customers through the application of our expertise in nanomaterials and materials science.

Innovation and Technology

Engi-Mat is dedicated to developing effective solutions to the most difficult challenges in our core areas of nanomaterials and materials science. Our talented technical staff has been granted approximately 50 U.S. patents covering our raw materials, processes, equipment, composition of matter, intermediate products and final products. The Engi-Mat team’s know-how, technical depth and industry experience enable us to provide customer-specific solutions to satisfy diverse technical requirements. The company’s proprietary process enables the design and manufacture of nanoparticles for challenging applications. Management

Claudia Goggin – Chief Executive Officer and Board Member since mid 2023. Joined the company in early 2028 and previously served as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Technology Officer. During 17 years at Lexmark, a leader in printing technology, her roles included Manager of New Materials Development, Manager of the global Materials Technology Area, and Worldwide Manager of Product and Process Quality Assurance. Additionally, she holds 10 patents. She earned an advanced degree in Chemical Engineering (Diplôme d’Ingénieur) with a specialization in Formulation Chemistry from ITECH-Lyon in France, a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Florida, and an MBA from the University of Kentucky/University of Louisville.

Board Members

Thomas A. Saponas – Chairman of Engi-Mat Board. 15 years with Engi-Mat. Previously was the Senior VP and CTO for Agilent Technologies, the spinoff of Hewlett Packard. Earlier, served as Vice President and General Manager at Hewlett Packard where he led eight divisions and 5 operations. In the mid-80’s, Tom was a White House Fellow (Special Assistant to the Secretary of the Navy). Mr. Saponas has a B.S. in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Colorado.

Jeffrey C. Moore – Board Member. 24 years with Engi-Mat. Served as the COO and in-house counsel of Engi-Mat from 1994 until 2001. Previously served as Senior Attorney for Advantis (a Sears/IBM joint venture) and, prior to that, served as Laboratory Counsel for IBM focused on strategic third-party alliances. Earned a B.S. in Business Administration-Accounting from Miami University of Ohio, a Juris Doctor from Ohio State University College of Law, passed the CPA examination, and was admitted to the State Bars of New York and Georgia.

Facilities and Equipment

Engi-Mat’s facilities are equipped to perform cutting-edge product research, development and manufacturing. Our extensive in-house instrumentation enables our experienced analytic personnel to provide thorough and timely materials analysis in support of Engi-Mat’s development programs. Engi-Mat’s laboratory capabilities include X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), X-ray Fluorescence (XRF), Inductively Coupled Plasma – Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP-OES) and particle size / surface-area measurement (BET).

Our manufacturing equipment includes proprietary nanopowder production units (ranging from high-production, high-purity capability to a small-scale system to produce trial quantities of products in development), wire-coating capabilities, flame assisted flash sintering systems, and a cleanroom dedicated to the handling of high-purity products.
